Microsoft AntiSpyware

Now you might have noticed that I am not somebody who particularly likes Microsoft. However, Microsoft AntiSpyware(UPDATE: now called Windows Defender) is actually a nice product. While still in beta, I think it is even superior to Lavasoft’s Ad-aware.
Microsoft AntiSpyware is highly configurable, and allows you to set up a schedule for automatic updating, and to run scheduled scans. Both can be set to run overnight, when you’re computer is not in use, of course that only works if you leave your computer on all the time.
So if you are a Windows user, I highly recommend downloading Microsoft AntiSpyware(UPDATE: now called Windows Defender). If you decide to ignore me on this, please download something to protect you from Spyware, even if you go with Lavasoft’s Ad-aware or Spybot Search and Destroy.

This is good news. Now, instead of forcing IE and MSNMessenger to be included in Windows so tightly, let’s have a little anti-spyware and anti-virus included in Windows right out of the box. In the grand scheme of things, surely “secure the base system” should be higher in priority than “destroy the internet by saturating the market with a buggy browser.”

Maybe I should have a new blog category here called “Public Service Announcements” and include posts like this one and the previous one. Most would be Microsoft and Windows related. What do you think?

Hm, maybe. I personally have never even once (that I can remember) clicked on any filter-by-category link on any weblog, but that’s probably just me. I guess it’s because I don’t find “new” blogs too often, and the ones that I watch, I generally hit daily, so I read everything as it happens.
