Football

It has been quite a while since I wrote anything about football. If you recall, I’m a Jets fan, which inherently is not an easy thing to be. If you follow football at all, you know that the Jets have been plagued with injuries the entire season. Losing your starting quarterback and the backup QB within minutes, with an identical injury totally crushes you as a fan. Losing your all-pro center who hasn’t missing a game in the last million years (it seemed) also hurts. Other things like having your tight-end break his ankle… well you get the point. OK, I’m not going to give you an injury report of all the Jets. The Google search on the right-hand side of my site will hook you up, if you really want to find out the answer.
Now you know why my football posts have been few and far between. By the way, it turns out that I stink as a fantasy football team owner also.
In other NFL news, the Colts are my pick for the AFC representative in the Super Bowl. In the NFC, we may see the Panthers again. The NFC is not a lock from my perspective, so I won’t give any definitive predictions on that.
I will try to comment on the Jets’ game on a more consistent basis for the rest of this season. They visit Denver to play the Broncos this Sunday, so it should be interesting to see how badly they lose, or how big an upset they can pull off.
Until next time…

Death Cab

Ok, I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and I think it’s time that I post about it. What’s the deal with Death Cab For Cutie??? I mean the music is not bad but at the same time it is quite slow and boring. Is it the ‘great lyrics’?? Because I have listened to the lyrics and while the words sounded OK, I didn’t think it was anything spectacular. I managed to listen to the whole album, which I literally had to force myself to do, and I kept hoping it would get better and that one song on the album would stand out. That however was not the case. Song after song was just more of the same. So please, I beg you, please comment and let me know what the deal is with Death Cab.

There’s an article about hybrid cars over at OmniNerd called Is a Hybrid Worth It? which is very in-depth. It weighs gas prices, the value of your current car, MPG of your current car, MPG of the hybrid car, how much you may still owe on your current car, and the monthly payment of the new hybrid. There are many charts and graphs also, if you’re into that sort of fun.
If you are considering buying a hybrid vehicle, definitely check it out. If you aren’t considering it, check out the article anyway because it is an interesting read.

New Features

You might have noticed that now I have Google Ads on my site. This is a decision that I hope will not have any negative effects on my site usability and readability. I hope my few loyal readers will not find it bothersome. I have also added a Google search below the search within my site. I hope this might come in handy, not just for myself, but for you oh loyal reader of my site.
Now I just have to figure out how to eliminate any negativity directed towards political parties. If you’ve read my site for any amount of time, I’m sure you can figure out my party affiliation. I do not like the fact that there is negativity towards the party that I support, and I will remedy the situation as soon as possible. Thanks for your understanding and support.

Firefox Fun

If you are a Firefox user, you might like this. If you like to browse using the handy built-in tabs, you will really like Tab Preview. When you have multiple tabs open, a simple mouse-over shows you the contents of that tab in a small preview window, which comes in very handy. I believe you need to be running one of the beta or release candidates of Firefox version 1.5 to use this extension.

Election Day

Get out and vote! I know it’s not a ‘big one’ (presidential) but get out there and exercise that right!

Political Ads

As an avid television viewer who admittedly watches too much TV, I just wanted to take a minute to chime in and say that I’m glad the election is this coming Tuesday. That means that I won’t have to endure all the mudslinging political ads much longer. Since the majority of the local channels that I get are broadcast from New York City, many of the ads I have been bombarded by are for NY’s mayoral election. Michael Bloomberg is up for re-election and Fernando Ferrer is the challenger. If I were a resident of NYC, I would not know whom I would vote for. I’m not sure that either one of these men are right for the job. Billionaire Mike Bloomberg’s platform is centered on the NYC school system, and how he has positively changed it in the past four years. He maintains that the way to have this continued success is to let him finish what he started via another term in office. Freddy Ferrer’s claim is that he’s not a billionaire, “…he’s more like you.”, as one of his ads explained to me. None of the ads seem to actually get to the real issues. I’m rather tired of all the name-calling and mudslinging and will be happy a week from today when all these ads become just an annoying memory – regardless of who wins.

Time Delay

I was just reading this article at Yahoo! about Tom DeLay. Apparently, he and his lawyers want a new judge assigned to case. “Why?,” you ask? The current judge donated to Moveon.org. According to the footer of the MoveOn.org main page, this is who they claim to be:

The MoveOn family of organizations consists of two entities. MoveOn.org Civic Action, a 501(c)(4) organization, primarily focuses on education and advocacy on important national issues. And MoveOn.org Political Action, a federal political committee, primarily helps members elect candidates who reflect our values.

In reality, they are a far-left political group that is anti-Bush and anti-anything-or-anyone-Republican-or-Conservative. Being that this is a “politically charged” case, I can’t say that I blame DeLay for requesting another judge. I’m not sure that the current judge could put personal biases aside given the nature of this case.
Anyway, my original reason for this post is that if you say his name aloud — go ahead and do it, I’ll wait — it sounds like somebody with a southern accent saying ‘time delay.’ Here are some definitions, via Google. While I’m ranting about his name anyway, what’s with the capital ‘L’? It doesn’t change the pronunciation; “delay” and “DeLay” spoken aloud are identical to me. To quote Nirvana:

“Oh well, whatever, never mind…”

Fantasy Football

This is the first year that I have participated in fantasy football. My wife, father-in-law, brothers-in-law and some friends have a free league set up on Yahoo!, and let me tell you – it is a lot of fun. The scoring is all done for you, and you can trade players, pick up free agents, decide whom to play this week, and whom to bench. Each week you play head-to-head against another player in your league, and the one with the most total points wins for the week. If you are even a casual football observer I urge you to check it out, although you’ll probably have to wait for next season. Football fanatics must check it out. That’s right, you must. I’m not giving you a choice.
OK, OK, I know – you want to know how I’m doing in the league. Well, I could be doing better, but currently in our league of 8 people, I am in fourth place at 3-3. I just eeked out a win last night, 51.82 to 51.19, thanks to my starting quarterback this week, Peyton Manning. All in all, a good way to finish up my birthday. :)
