Hackett Resigns from the Jets

Paul Hackett has decided that “There are other opportunities that I would like to explore at this point in time.” and Head Coach Herman Edwards has accepted his resignation. On paper, it appears that there are not any hard feelings between Hackett and Edwards nor between Hackett and the New York Jets organization. Coach Edwards noted that the Jets “will now begin the process of identifying and interviewing candidates for the position with the goal of increasing our offensive productivity and consistency.” The full story is online at the Jets’ website (link no longer available). As I mentioned in my previous post, the Jets did much better defensively after getting rid of last season’s defensive coordinator, hopefully next season with a new offensive coordinator the offensive will benefit similarly. I am happy about this move all in all, and think the Jets will almost certainly do better on offense in the 2005 season.
