Paul Hackett has decided that “There are other opportunities that I would like to explore at this point in time.” and Head Coach Herman Edwards has accepted his resignation. On paper, it appears that there are not any hard feelings between Hackett and Edwards nor between Hackett and the New York Jets organization. Coach Edwards noted that the Jets “will now begin the process of identifying and interviewing candidates for the position with the goal of increasing our offensive productivity and consistency.” The full story is online at
So my beloved Jets officially ended their season with a loss to Pittsburgh. They really should have won that game. Most people are quick to blame Doug Brien for missing 2 field goals. I sure was in that situation during the post-game show. If he made one field goal out of those 2, it would have given the Jets enough points to win. But he can’t bear all the blame though, since the offense just didn’t produce. Winning the turnover battle is what kept the Jets in the game at all, thanks to Santana Moss’ punt return for a touchdown, Reggie Tongue’s interception on defense and the fumble recovery given up by the Steelers’ running back Jerome Bettis. Any way you slice it, they just missed many opportunities and couldn’t secure the ‘W’. I’m disappointed either way, since the Jets are done for the season.
The other shocker of the weekend for me was that the Colts lost so badly to the Patriots. I thought that Peyton Manning and company’s offense was going to steamroll the Pats. I hate those Patriots, but they always seem to get the job done, which further irritates me, especially as such a die-hard green-bleeding Jets fan.
Now I have to go for the Steelers all the way, even though they just eliminated the Jets. “Look kids! Big Ben! Parliament!”
J!-E!-T!-S! Just! Ended! The! Season!
There’s always next year…
I hope everyone had a nice New Year’s night and that everyone’s finding 2005 in good shape. If you have a hangover, take some Advil and drink plenty of water! (:
Well the Jets lost at home against the Patriots yesterday. Once again, they failed to get their offense going. This is very frustrating as a Jets fan, as you may or may not know. They must win next week in order to secure a wild card spot in the playoffs. If Denver or Buffalo loses, they can also secure a spot, but it would be much better if they win on their own merits rather than another team’s loss. We’ll see what happens.
In other NFL news, Peyton Manning broke the single season touchdown record yesterday, with 49. He can increase that record next week, maybe he can get 50+ this season…
I know that I don’t write that many posts to this blog, but just so you know, I will be taking a break for Christmas. In fact, I will be in another state and not near a computer. I will also be going to the Jets game on Sunday, their home closer. If you are a football fan, I don’t need to tell you how important this game is for the Jets. If you aren’t a football fan, not only are you missing out on all the fun, but you do not recognize the importance of this Sunday’s Jets game. Or maybe you do, now. Since I just told you. You noticed, right. Oh, you didn’t? Sorry. OK, let me tell you, this Sunday (December 26th), is a very imortant game for the Jets. OK, there I told you. I’ll blog again next week, Monday the earliest. I hope you appreciate that I am posting more often. Maybe my readership will go up as a result. Maybe not. To my two loyal readers, I thank you and appreciate your comments. Have a Merry Christmas!
This weekend was pretty busy, getting ready for Christmas, getting ready for the Jets game and actually going to the game. If you haven’t heard, whether it be because you live in a cave, do not like or follow football, or simply do not care, (I’m going to report anyway) that the Jets killed the Seahawks 37-14. It was a great game, especially for Jets fans. I can not stress how well the Jets’ defense has been playing this year. The offense was really firing on all cylinders also yesterday. Chad Pennington had some great touch passes, and spread the ball around very well. Next week the Jets take on the New England Patriots. I honestly believe that the Jets can beat them, especially if they approach the game the way I saw them play the Seahawks yesterday. Next week is the Jets’ last home game of the season, and hence the last tailgate of the season as well, which really is half the fun of going to the games.
On another note, last night into early this morning we Long Islanders saw out first snowfall of the season. There was about 4 maybe 5 inches of snow on the ground outside of my apartment when I got up this morning. Thanks to the snow, it took me almost an hour and a half to get to work, which is about an hour more than a normal day. Grrrrr…
So this weekend is a big one for the NFL. The Steelers continue to dominate, and as of this writing, the Falcons are up, over the Panthers, 17-10 in the third quarter. As you may know, I am a Jets fan, and I will be at the Meadowlands to watch them play the Seahawks. This is the Jets’ seventh (of eight) home games this season; the fifth of which I will attend. This is an important game for both teams, and I will be cheering and going crazy in the crowd rooting for my team. Next week the Jets battle the Patriots, and I will be there, at the Meadowlands again, for the Jets last regular season home game of this season. Go Jets! J!-E!-T!-S! JETS! JETS! JETS! (by the way, the Falcons just scored again, now it’s 24-10…)
While browsing around the Internets, I happened to stumble across this picture, which I found amusing, so here it is: Link to the picture by itself
OK, I just viewed a Quicktime movie that was funny, cheesy, and scary (in a way) all rolled into one. I mirrored it on my media site for your viewing pleasure (obviously requires that you have Quicktime installed or a movie player that is capable of playing .mov files). This file is originally found here.
The K Desktop Environment for UNIX-like systems has been released. On my Fedora Core 3 laptop, I built this new version of KDE using Konstruct. From the website: …is a build system which helps you to install KDE releases and applications on your system. It downloads defined source tarballs, checks their integrity, decompresses, patches, configures, builds and installs them. A complete KDE installation should be as easy as “cd meta/kde;make install”. Mine is installed to my local home directory. I haven’t been home long enough to try it out yet, but I might post my opinions, and/or screenshots if anyone is interested. Try it out for yourself, and let me know how you like it!
